Home Up WILDCAT I BEARCAT I

Building a Heritage

The first Steiger was built in Minnesota in the winter of 1956 and 1957. The
tractors were named after animals, including PUMA, WILDCAT, BEARCAT, COUGAR,
PANTHER, LION, and TIGER, which denoted a specific horse power class. Early
1970's Steiger Models like the 170 hp WILDCAT I used the color red on the
radiator screens and axels to designate the model. The engines were the
stock color of the manufacturer ( in most cases Caterpillar yellow).
