White Motor Corporation
White 2255 Proto-type In 1960, the White Motor Corporation began purchasing the Oliver Corporations farm equipment plants. In 1962 White Motors purchased Cockshutt of Canada and made it part of it's Oliver Corporation subsidiary. The following year Minneapolis-Moline was purchased by White and operated it separate from the Oliver subsidiary. Gradually all the individual brand names and colors were phased out by the parent company. In 1975 Oliver, Minneapolis-Moline, and Cockshutt names no longer appeared on the tractors. The colors were changed to the two-tone grey of White. Pictured above is an early White proto-type tractor most likely based from the Oliver 2255. Like other big name brand equipment makers White Motors fell on hard times in the 1980's. White Farm Equipment went through several owners in the eighties and in 1987 Allied merged White with its New Idea brand. Ownership changed one more time in 1991 to White's current owner the Allis-Gleaner Corporation.
