Big Roy was one of a kind tractor built by Versatile Manufacturing. Three prototype Model 1080 Versatile 8wds were built in the late 1970's. The Versatile 1080 is an impressive 8 wheel drive, air suspension, 600hp V12 Cummins KTA 1150 engine tractor. Do to its large size, dust proof 120 degree wide angle television cameras were linked to monitors in the cab in order to allow the farmer to view the implement hooked to the tractor and also the field.  The articulated 8wd frame articulates 40 degrees in both directions and with fully hydrostatic actuation. The 1080's turning radius is 26.6 feet with 30.5x32 singles. A company representative asked about fuel consumption, said they had never been able to load it enough to know how much fuel it would burn per hour.  Don Campbell a builder of steel farm equipment models produced a 1/16 scale Big Roy 1080 in 2002.
