The John Deere Twenty Series

All new for 2002

John Deere 8520 (255 hp)

In July 2001 John Deere unveiled its new 20 series row crop and four wheel drive tractors at the tractor maker's New Mexico dealers meeting.
The new twenty series row crop tractors cosmetic features  include new fenders, grilles, head lights, new hoods and side panels enclosing the engine. Under the hood the models have been beefed up from 5 to 10 horse power. The 8020 series includes the 8120, 8220, 8320, 8420 and the all new 255 hp 8520 pictured to the right with front duals and rear triples. The 8420 2wd and 9420 4wds hp ratings remain unchanged at 225hp and 425hp respectively.

The row crop tracked 8020's include the 8120T, 8220T, 8320T, 8420T and 8520T. The 9020T series gains a third model with the 455hp 9520T. The 9300T and 9400T are upgrade to the 9320T and 9420T.
For 2002 John Deere upgrades its tried and true 9000 series 4wds first introduced in 1996. The new 450hp 9520 leads the pack followed by the 9420, 9320, 9220 and 9120.

Not all the 20 series are big 4wd or fwa models.  The 170 hp 8120 is available in 2wd for farms that do not need extra traction up front. The row crop tires may look a little odd on this power house but they are perfect for dairy farmer who needs power to chop hay and corn on dry summer fields but not the expense of 4wd.

The 7210 is dropping 5hp on the new 7220 and the 7610 being dropped and the 7520 will fill the gap by  going up 5hp in the new scheme. The 7710 and 7810 models will remain in the John Deere mid-range tractor line through 2004. The all new 7x20 tractors will be available for retail in March 2003.

7020s look similar to 6020s in general appearance. They do NOT have pure 8020 series cabs, but a mixture of 6020 and 8020. Likely identical to a European 6920, based on the features the cab contains. All 7000s now offer IVT transmisions, and CommandArms in the cabs. In order to have the deluxe cab w/ CommandArm, you must purchase a model with an IVT.
