Home Up TJ Series Tracked Versatile 9682

Blue Tracks

Prior to the 1999 merger of New Holland and Case Corp. the New Holland Corporation experimented with a tracked version of their popular 425 hp Versatile 9882 series. This tracked Versatile incorporated a massive three drive wheel track assembly. This system was intended to provide this tire slip and greater flotation than New Holland's potential competitors in the track tractor market  including Caterpillar's E series Challenger's, CaseIH's Quadtrac and John Deere 9000T series.  The tracked Versatile was still in the testing phase when Case-New Holland formed.  Under the merger agreement the New Holland 4wd line was sold to Buhler and two tracked model testing ceased at New Holland.  CNH decided to produce New Holland 4wds using the Steiger STX frame but in order to preserve brand identity only CaseIH Steigers are available with the Quadtrac design. For now New Holland 4wds will only feature tires. Maybe Buhler-Versatile will pick up on the track system where New Holland left off? Below is the 9882 re-bagged as a Buhler-Versatile 2525. It looks like Buhler is beefing up the Tracked Versatile to 525 hp and increasing the big tractor power horse power race.

New Holland experimented on a tracked Genesis. In the mid-1990's when Caterpillar first offered its row crop Challenger line New Holland produced it for CAT at their Winnipeg tractor plant. CAT used NH cabs and styling on the smaller Challenger line.  The Challenger line was later moved to the CAT plant in Dekalb. New Holland began looking at track tractors and developed a chassis and undercarriage for the Genesis. The tracked Genesis development survived the Case-New Holland merger but its fate is unclear. CaseIH was also developing a Quadtrac Magnum as early as 1991 and was much further along in a final product in 1999 than New Holland.
