Udder Chaos Dairy Farms By Tim Grube
Udder Chaos is a perfect name for this facility. It is a nut house, however a finely oiled nuthouse. 2000 cows on 3000 acres. I intended for the farm to be located near my parents home in random lake Wisconsin. the farm consists of three facilities. The original dairy is being built as I told you on the phone. It will be modeled after the farm I currently work for part time. The main facility is the dairy. The cows are milked 3 times a day in a double 34; boumatic parallel parlor. There are five free stall barns. four of them are identical. They are 128'x256' they house 450 cows each. barn number 4 has 370 cows because it contains the maternity pens. Barn number 5 is the dry cow barn and it too is under construction. The third facility is the feed storage area. it also contains a shed with the farm's main shop. Feed is all bought in bulk and stored in a commodity shed. the silage and haylage is stored in the bunker silo or on drive over piles. The farm employs 25 full time employees and numerous part time employees depending upon the time of year. Milk is shipped directly to the processing plant in Cedarburg Wisconsin. The farm owns its own tankers and semis. four to be exact. Udder Chaos ships about three tankers a day out the door. No bulk tanks. Directly pumped into the semis. The majority of the field work and harvesting is custom done. However the farm does have some machinery to lighten the load. We start the job and custom farmers tend to finish it. At peak haying season you could see 5 choppers in the field at once. Got to make hay while the sun shines. As for my inspiration, all I have to tell you is how I live vicariously through it. Working on and operating a large dairy in Wisconsin is what I would love to do for a living. since I don't, I have to pretend farm. It seems to be almost as expensive at times. The farm is fairly typical of how real large dairies are set up in Wisconsin. I intend on being as realistic as possible. I do not work on a large dairy so if I have questions I ask those who know. I work on this display every week. I have built many dairy displays and this is my pride and joy. It took me 2 years to build and complete. I will be displaying at the National Farm Toy Show in Dyersville this November. It probably will be quite similar but some changes are always in the works. Author: Tim Grube builder of Udder Chaos Farms. Feed preparation on Udder Chaos is very important. A farm the size of Udder Chaos needs lots of harvesters. The farm owns one Self propelled chopper and hires custom cutters to come in to help chop hay and corn through out the summer. With the amount of feed coming in from 500hp+ choppers that can fill a dump truck in less than 15 minutes Udder Chaos needs allot of space to store silage. Here we see the farms silage bunkers. The farm uses their 4wd and bull dozer to pack the bunks. In the last picture we see a Varity of 4wds lined up on the pile. Several neighbors pitch in at Udder Chaos with their 4wds to help keep the harvest on pace. Udder Chaos has a large dairy facility to house 2000 cows. Here we see the parlor where all 2000 cows are milked daily in several shifts around the clock. Keeping the farm clean is important. Cow manure is handled in a liquid slurry form. Big Houle tankers haul and spread it on the fields. Keeping all the cows feed is important. Udder Chaos uses a Mack truck with a TMR to cover all the barns to keep the cows fed. Equipment maintance is important. Here we see the shop on Udder Chaos. The farm can not afford to have a piece of equipment break during key seasons.
