Home Up PUMA 1000 Cougar 1000 2wd Steiger CP1400 Lion 1000

Baby Steiger

Once upon a time, 4WD tractors were meant for one thing: big
tillage work on the High Plains. Farmers in the mid-1980's realized they
could profit from 4WD tractor performance in more than just heavy-tillage
applications. Steiger introduced the 168 hp PUMA 1000 for the farmer looking
for a smaller tractor for row crop use on the farm from planting to
harvesting, but still needing a 4wd tractor. Steiger also tested a 2wd model
tractor and produced two units before scrapping the idea. Small row crop
4wds have given way to high horsepower 2wd models. Today's top 2wds models
offer 235hp, 10 more horsepower than most of the big 4wds of the 1970's. Scale Models produced a 1/32 scale Puma 1000 from 1986-1987. Scale Models also offered a chrome plated collectors edition model.
