IH 1256 March 2001: by Jim Schroer
SD Man's brother's 1256 with factory fwa and cab Jim Schroer of South Dakota or SD man brother farms with fwa 1256. He pretty much bought it the way you see it with the exception of the chrome stack (had the factory 56 series muffler on it when he bought it 9 years ago). A guy 50 miles north of here rebuilt it "from the ground up". He overhauled the engine, put a new TA & clutch in it, completely repainted it, added the MFD axle to it, found those big duals & such. Its been a pretty good tractor overall, but the RH rear axle broke on it 2 years ago. The cab is far from comfortable as its rather noisy & no A/C. Generally, it just does the heavy tillage work (by heavy I mean it pulls a 21' tandem disc which is hooked to it in the picture & a 29' chisel plow). The bad thing about the MFD axle is that it takes forever to turn around. The axle is the same axle that a lot of military 6X6s used at about the same time frame.
