Red Power Roundup

July 2001: by Jon Propheter

On June 8, 9, and 10 I attended the 12th annual Red Power Roundup in Mt.Pleasant, IA. The heavy rains in the days before the show had left the grounds muddy in places, but the sun came out, making that IH iron shine the whole time.
I spent the time walking up and down the endless rows of machinery and making my way around to all of the venders while taking time to really absorb it all in.
There were some things there that may be a once in a lifetime chance for some people to see, such as the steamers on the wind dynometer or the Titan 10-20 being started up. There were tractors there that were obviously just off the farm and some with immaculate restoration jobs.
Of the approximate 700-800 tractors there, a couple of my favorites would have to be the 1568 with twin-turbos and the 4300 4wd, both having there own unique roar when throttled up.
I also enjoyed seeing all of the 400s,450s, and a couple 806s and 56s, as those are what our farm still uses to this day.
Just seeing so many people at one place all interested in the same thing was truly amazing. I guess this interest has been passed down through generations, just like it has passed from my grandfather, to my father, and now me. I certainly enjoyed it, and will plan on attending future Red Power Roundups!
