Tractors - Twenty Series
The John Deere 8400 brought 21st Century technology to farmers in 1994. The 8400 was a major step forward in power and convenience. In 1975 John Deere's largest tractor was the 225hp 8630 4wd tractor and 19 years later John Deere engineers beefed up their largest 2wd tractor to the same horse power. The 8400 offered new operator comfort visibility unmatched by the prior 200hp 4960. No longer was the farmers view obstructed by a bar in the windshield or by the smoke stack that was centered on the hood of the 4850 and 4955. New CommandARM controls and instrumentation made operation much easier on the farmer. The new 8.1 Liter engine was unmatched in its class. Ertl offered a 1/16 Collectors edition of the 8400 in 1994 with fwa/duals and for the first time mud flaps. In 1995 a 1/32 Precision Classic model of the 8400 was offered and in 1996 a 1/64 8400 was released.
