New Holland 8870A
8870A End of an Era
The Series 70A tractors were designed for the large, productive farmers that require rugged, durable and reliable tractors in the power range between 145 and 210 hp. With the New Holland PowerShift transmission, there is simple, single lever control of 18 forward and 9 reverse gears, smooth clutchless shifting and speed matched power reversing. The SuperSteer option gives 65° turn angle and increases productivity with fast turn round times. The A series was released in the year 2001 and replaced the popular Genesis 70 series first released in 1995. In 1999 New Holland acquired Case Corp through its parent company Fiat. Under the Case-New Holland merger guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Justice, the Genesis tractor line had to be sold. Buhler Industries purchased the Genesis tractor line in 2001 from CNH. Buhler currently produces Genesis tractors under the Versatile name and colors. At the time of the sale to Buhler, NH had updated several features on the Genesis and released it as the A series. Under an agreement with Buhler NH sold the A series in 2001 and 2002 until the CNH TG tractor line was introduced in July 2002. Due to labor problems at Buhler in the year 2001 very few A tractors were built and the ones that were built were assembled by hand so A models are much less numerous in availability. The 8870A is a 180 hp tractor well suited for work on large farms or as a king pin tractor on a mid-sized farm. New Holland chose the 8870A to mark the closing of the Genesis era at the company. Spec-Cast who first offered 1/16 Genesis models in 1995 produced the 1/16 8870A. The model carries a pewter plate stating End of an Era. This collectors model was released in August 2001 and is painted in the new New Holland blue and features fwa and single rear wheels. It appears to be a limited run tractor as not many New Holland dealers stocked them nor are they common at toy shows. Look to spend around $85 for an 8870A toy.
