"The New Farmall"
In 1984 International began work on it next generation of 2wd tractors that would carry the company into the 90's. A new cab was developed for the STS transmission tractors. It was controversial because it only had a drivers side door and after years of promoting 2 door cabs it seemed as if IH was joining the crowd. IH planned to introduce the new line as the "New Farmall" returning to its roots in the tractors business that made it #1 in the Ag market for so many years. IH never had the chance to unveil the 5188 or other new Farmalls as IH merged with Case in 1985. The new tractor survived to become the 7100 series Magnum. Case had been working on its own 24 speed 2wd prior to the merger. Case married the IH cab (retagged with a Case name "Silent Guardian II") and transmission with the new Case frame and introduced the Magnum as a replacement for the 94 series.
The Magnum tractor is considered one of the best and most reliable tractors since the IH 06 series. The Magnum had an unprecedented 5 year/5000 hour warranty in 1987. In 1992 the 7100 series were upgraded to the 7200 series. In 1996 CaseIH planned to introduce the 7300 Magnums but because of the success of John Deere's 8000 series in 1994 and New Holland's 8000 series Genesis tractors in 1995, 8000 meant big 2wd power to farmers. Marketing stepped in and the 7300 Magnums were unveiled as 8900 series. In 1998 the first new from the ground up CaseIH tractors were introduced as the MX Magnums. Ertl's first Magnums were the 1/16 Denver collectors editions at the release of the Magnum tractor line at the Denver, Colorado dealers meeting. Over the years several 1/64 7100, 7200 and 8900 models were sold with fwa, duals and loaders including one 7130 in a box shaped like a stocking. One replica that sums up the success of the Magnum is the 1/16 1995 50'000th Magnum celebrating the real model marking the high number of Magnums produced and sold by CaseIH in less than a decade.
