Being involved in farming, I have enjoyed collecting toy models of the
tractors I use every day. It is always fun to go to the dealer for parts
and check out the new toy models too. Our farm has a 1981 International
1486 with front-wheel-assistant axles provided by Elwood Manufacturing.
The early 86 Series FWA axles were provided by American-Coleman of
Colorado. The 1486 is one of our main power tractors on a 100 cow diary
operation. In the summer we chop hay and corn with it and in the fall it
will plow 6 bottoms in axel deep mud when we need it to. The 1486 has been
a good tractor and you don't see to many with the front wheel drive
option. Late 5488's and then the Magnums seemed to be the first models
that had fwa standard. Ertl never offered a 1486 model but I found one
for my collection on e-bay. It is a 1586 shelf model with Ertl fwa axels
added and 1486 decals. Next I would like to find the IH 5288 collectors
edition with fwa for my collection.
