John Deere 5830 Self-Propelled Forage Harvester
Introduced in 1986 the 290hp 5830 self-propelled forage harvester was the ultimate in John Deere chopping capacity and convenience. The 5830 was designed to cut up to 4 rows of corn at once. The John Deere Spout-Trak control added ease on tight urns and winding rows by allowing the chopper spout to follow the wagons path on tight turns. Deere's Iron-Gard metal detector was an essential feature that protects the machine and metal from wire and other dangerous metal pieces that can turn up in a field. A standard multi-function control stick allows the operator to operate the spout rotation, spout endcap, header height and ground speed with one hand. The 1/64 5830 models pictured above are part of C&D Models private collection.
