4640
Produced from 1978 to 1982, the John Deere 4640 was one of the "Iron Horses," which was the phrase used to market the 40 series tractors. Compared to its predecessor, the 4630, this tractor had increased lift capacity, hydraulic capacity, and improved power output. It was available with either Quad Range, or Powershift Transmission, and came with standard 1,000 rpm PTO, and they could hold up to 96 gallons of diesel fuel in the standard tank. The engine was turbocharged and inner-cooled. Rated at 156 PTO horsepower, the 4640 was truly a power-house for its time. Variations of the model included open operator’s station models, as well as optional hydraulic-driven front wheel assist. Model replicas of the 4640 are custom models, as no shelf-type models have yet to be produced. There are many very detailed models of the 4640 in high-detail. Many of these are modified from Ertl shelf model tractors.
