Steiger Industrial Power Cats

Steiger tractors were built by farmers for farmers. Since the Steiger brothers first brought the Steiger 4wd to the field in 1958 their tractors built a solid reputation for big farm field work.  In 1975 the Steiger company decided to expand its product line up beyond agricultural uses to the industrial market.   Steiger Industrial 4wds were beefed up for construction work. Steiger industrials were painted yellow, cab glass replaced with shatter proof Lexan windows, protection package to guard against contraction site risks and timber site abuse from tree branches. The tires were beefed up with tough slash proof lugs and side walls and backed up with steel granules mixed into the rubber during tire production.  Steiger offered the model CA and CU 280, 325 and 360 Industrial 4wds. CA indicated Caterpillar engine models and CU models were Cummins powered units. CA Industrials were most common on the job site because they were easily serviced alongside other Caterpillar products. Cummins engines were also offered for areas where Caterpillar dealers were not readily available for service. Steiger ended its Industrial tractor production in 1984 because the construction market proved to tough to crack in high volume sales. Steiger tractors continued to have a following for Construction applications after 1984. In 1997 with CaseIH's introduction of 4 track Quadtrac, Steigers started popping up on construction sites in real numbers. While not designed for construction purposes like earlier Steigers the Quadtrac was a real proformer in dirt moving. By 1999 9370 and 9380 Scraper Quadtracs were offered by CaseIH exclusively for use with Reynolds scrappers. With the Introduction of the STX 375 and 440 Scraper Quadtracs  in 2000 the Steiger name was #1 in Construction earth moving 25 years after the company's first venture into the market.  Ertl offered its first Industrial Steiger in 1980 as part of the Toy Farmers 4 piece Steiger set. This early model was a 1/32 scale tractor made of plastic with dual tires and a yellow cab. In 1982 Ertl released a 1/32 die-cast Industrial Steiger on single fat tires and a black trim cab adding more realism to the toy. In 1984 Ertl offered a 1/64 Steiger Industrial farm toy.
