I started collecting in the mid 80’s after my brother and I found dads collection of toys from when he was a kid.  We had already been exposed to real tractors because we lived in the country.  Our neighbors worked our land and would often give us rides on their John Deere tractors and combine.  Because of that, John Deere has become my favorite brand.  The three of us started going to shows as something we could do together and dad started buying 1/64’s for us because they were inexpensive and didn’t take up much room.   My first display case was a discarded spice rack, then dad built barn shelves to hang in our rooms.

I enjoy setting up at shows for display or for sales.  I have set up at all WNY toy shows now for the past 15 yrs.  I am always looking to buy collections for resale and to add new pieces to my own collection.  Mostly I enjoy the hunt and when I find a hard to find tractor or a new variation that I wasn’t aware of.  The easiest way to find new variations is to compare tractors after the cards have changed or when Ertl changes similar models.  I look for things that rolled over from the last model into the new one before they caught them or used up old inventory.

I have tried my hand at a few custom tractors.  I have done several 1/64 tractors.

I built four 1/16 models out of wood.

Wooden IH 4786

These wooden models started out as a shop project in 8th grade.  The IH 4786 was the original project. It was boxy and I hoped it would be easy to do.  After learning from mistakes I started the Ford FW 60 the next year.  I had the 1/32 FW60 model to go from.  The JD was my next project and turned out to be my favorite.  It was scaled from an ERTL model.  The MF 4880 was my last attempt at wooden models and was once again scaled off the 1/32 model.

Wooden FW-60

I started each model out by gluing together 3 pieces of pine.  The school ban saw was large enough to accommodate the large block of wood.  The fenders are balsa wood and all the detail was cut out with a dremel tool.  I have enjoyed displaying them at toy shows as well as being featured in articles in the TF and a Canadian farm toy magazine as well.

Wooden John Deere 4wd and Massey Ferguson 4880

My latest custom models have been a local JD 4010 puller tractor that was featured in the TF custom built issue last year and the 656 utility tractor that we use around the house.

Please feel free to write to me with questions or for sales.  I have a variety of older tractors to add to your collection or to customize.
