Home Up PUMA 1000 Cougar 1000 2wd Steiger CP1400 Lion 1000

End of the Line

This 1986 280 hp COUGAR 1000 was one of the last lime green Steigers built. Even though Steiger was one of the most popular and and recognized names in the four-wheel drive market, the company was suffering in the depressed agricultural economy of the 1980's.  In August 1990 Ertl offered a 1/32 Cougar 1000 to mark the last new green Steiger toy model Ertl would ever offer. After 1989 all Steigers were painted Case International red. The 1/32 Cougar 1000 was only offered a a collector's edition and came with a working 3pt hitch.  In the late 1980's Cargill offered brochure that came with a 1/32 scale Cougar 1000 that could be made from the brochure.

1986 Merger

Like International Harvester and Allis-Chalmers, Steiger started looking for a larger partner in order to preserve the company. The newly formed Case International Company purchased Steiger through its parent company in 1987. Ertl also offered the 1/32 Cougar 1000 as a 1/32 Case International 9150.
