Case 970

The Case 970 was introduced in 1970. It offered on-the-go-shifting, a cushioned ROPS cab that kept noise and dust out, and a 50 gallon fuel tank made out of nylon. Case was the first in the industry to offer a nonmetallic fuel tank.  This was a key safety feature in rollovers because the tank would not rupture and it allowed Case to fit more capacity on each tractor.  The on-the-go-shifting was a key feature because an operator could change speeds in each range without stopping or clutching.  The 970 was the second largest model in the Agri-King range when the line was introduced.  Case rated the 970 the 85hp model as a six bottom plow tractor.  Ertl offered a 1/16 Model of the 970 with a cab in Case white in 1998. The white Case 970 can be found in two styles of boxes.  Early versions come in a white and black historical box and models produced after 1999 come in Ertl's standard CaseIH red and black corn field box pictured above. In 2001 Ertl introduced a tan Case 970 with an open station and a 4 bottom 3pt plow. Ertl released a Case 970 demonstrator model in 2002 which you can learn more about by clicking here.
