7 Section Chisel Instructions

By Caleb Stone

To make a 7 section chisel, first 3 of the Ertl chisels are needed.  Be sure to wear safety glasses for cutting all of the pieces.  First, for the center section, remove all of the hinges on the wings and main frame.  The inside frame member of each wing can also be removed.  Then attach each of the modified wings by glue or solder to the main frame. This should get a rigid frame that is almost as wide as the original chisel.  Next the hinges which were removed from the center section need to be added to the outside edge of the center frame.  When lining up all the hinges pay close attention to how the other hinge piece will fit together with it so everything lines up and it will fold up. For the wings, lay out the two other chisels on each side of the center section.  Cut off the hitches on the outside two chisels.  On these two chisels remove the wheels on the inside wings and glue the hinges off the first section to the outside edge of the inside wing.  The rest of the chisel stays the same.  Now, just connect the three together at the hinges.  A 5 section chisel can be made by removing another set of hinges and connecting the frames in a similar manner to the center section of this one.  Once mine was built, I repainted it red to make the plastic sections and the metal ones look the same color.  For any questions my email is stonejc@okstate.edu.
