This strange machine is an air drill. The drill is used to plant small grains, like winter wheat. the large cart   pulled behind the tractor holds seed and fertilizer.
The seeds are pushed by air into the trailing cultivator and placed into tightly spaced rows.
At 45 feet, this air drill is so large it is specially built to fold up when the farmer is traveling on the road to the next field.
