Not all plowing is the same. The minimum tillage plow's front disc gangs chop up stalks and field trash and deep ripping cultivators follow behind loosening the soil while maintaining little surface residue disturbance. Proper crop residue management is critical to maintaining good soil. The correct residue and soil mixture enables air to infiltrate for quicker soil warm-up and faster, even, and uniform plant emergence. Residue management also minimizes soil erosion and fertilizer runoff which enhances nutrient availability to optimize yields. |
