A different type of cutting head is used when a farmer harvests wheat and  other small grains. The wide blades in front are called bats. The bats whirl around drawing the wheat into the sickle bar cutters on the header platform, which cut the wheat stalks so that the grain can be be harvested. The wide blades on this combine cover 20 feet and can cut large areas of wheat quickly.
