Cultivators are also used to dig up weeds and loosen soil while crops are growing. This cultivator's digging blades or shanks are spaced to allow row crops like corn to pass through with out being damaged. Fertilizers and herbicides also can be applied by a cultivator when saddle tanks are placed on sides of the tractor to hold these helpful chemicals. Fertilizer helps feed the young plants so they will grow stronger and faster.
