A Global Tractor

The John Deere 8420 weighs in at 235 hp.  John Deere 8020 Series tractors feature the reliable and proven 6081H engines. These air-to-air aspiration engines deliver constant power with a power bulge feature and excellent torque characteristics. The 8.1 L PowerTech engine delivers up to 43 percent torque rise and as much as 13 percent power bulge. Standard Automatic PowerShift provides automatic shifting to maximize field performance in changing conditions.  Mechanical front-wheel drive gives 4-wheel-drive braking capabilities during transport, more traction in the field and with front duals less compaction with more power to pull through wet conditions. John Deere Independent Link Suspension is standard equipment on 8520 Tractor and available as an option on the 8420.

Ertl introduced a 1/64 8420 with ILS front duals in December 2001. In March 2002 Ertl offered a second 8420 as a European variation.  The 1/64 North American 8420's  differs with their European counter parts in that they have large single front and rear tires, wider front mud flaps and cast rear mud fenders where the American 8420 has no mud flaps. The most unique features are the European style front weight and additional cast hydraulic oil reservoir for the front disc-brakes required in Europe. In May 2002 Ertl introduced a 1/16 scale 8420.
