Chopping Power
In 1993 John Deere introduced the largest chopper on the market. The 430 hp 6910's main selling point was its big 6 row corn head. The heads two outside rows fold in for easy transport. The 6910 and other 6000 series forage harvesters offered an all new cab with more comfort, visibility and user friendly controls. One lever gives the operator control over ground speed, header lift, spout movement and emergency stop. Crops flow straight throw the 6910 and it has a spout that turns 180 degrees and with its double capped spout allows the 6910 fill any box completely. Ertl offered a 1/64 model of the 6910 from 1993 through 1999. Early versions featured a flat spout offered by John Deere as a forage wagon model and the later 6910's came with an arched spout used to fill trucks. Ertl only offered the 6910 with a 6 row corn head. The early version of the 1/64 6910 came with a flat spout for filing silage wagons and later versions had an arched spout for truck loading. C&D Models offers a hay head and 6910 detail kit for the 1/64 forage harvester. The Ertl 6910 is a highly sought after and brings upwards of $35 at many toy shows. Don Campbell built a one of a kind model of a self propelled forage harvester pictured above in 1/16 scale made completely of steel. It was built for Dave Miller from Florida.
