The Top of the IH Line
In 1979 International released the largest tractor the company would ever offer. The Steiger built 350 hp IH diesel powered 4786 was made for the operation that measured by section. It's 800 cubic inch turbo charged diesel V-8 was capable of pulling multiple pieces of large equipment teamed to incorporate chemicals, till and smooth the seed bed in one pass. Other 86 series articulated models included the 235 hp 4586 and the 175 hp 4386. In 1980 the 86 series 4wd's styling was updated from a white roof to a red one. The 4786 and other models were discontinued in 1982. The 7788 with 88 series styling was scheduled to replace the 4786, although IH's finical trouble led to the sale of the company's 30% share of the Steiger Corporation based in North Dakota to Deutz-Fahr of Germany. C&D Models offers a 1/64 kit to build an IH 4786. Baker has also produced a 1/64 4786.
