The International 1586 was rated at 161.5 hp and was easily the king pin on any row crop operation. The most powerful of the 86 series two-wheel drive models the 1586 was ideal for the farmer who needed maximum productivity along with the best working environment. The 1586 was the kind of tractor you could build a farming and cropping operation around. IH built the 1586 to work. A rugged planetary final drive system assured efficient use of the 6-cylinder, 436 cu. in. IH engine. Dual wheels were a must during tillage to put all of the 1586's power to the ground. The roomy IH " 86 series Command Center" cab said welcome inside to the operator. The driver sits in a deluxe seat that could be adjusted to fit any dimension. The steering wheel had automotive telescopic adjustments. The cab was fitted with monitors, warning lights and a speedometer.  The 1586 set a new mark for IH tractors for sound level in the cab with a record low in official tests at 78.5 decibels inside the cab. Another big IH advantage was a cab with right and left entry doors with a field horizon view of more than 43 sq. ft of tinted glass.  Ertl offered a 1/16 scale IH 1586 from 1977 to 1993. This was one of the longest runs of a model tractor in Ertl history.  The first 1586 offered from 1977 to 1982 came with dual wheels and was packaged in a red and black Blue Print Replica Box.  This model sells for $60 today. The next 1586 offered from 1982 to 1990 for general retail cam in singles and was packaged in a tan box.  From 1991 to 1993 Ertl offered the 1586 with a loader or without a loader in singles. The non-loader model offered during this time had the holes drilled into the casting for the loader mounts. These two models came in a blue Farm Country boxes.
