More Power to Pull You Through

The Ford model 1156 Designation 6 Versatile 4wd Tractor at 470 hp was the biggest
Versatile ever sold from the Winnipeg, Canada based company. In 1987 the
Ford Motor Company purchased the Versatile Corporation so it would have a
full line of tractors to offer in its Ford/New Holland Ag division. The
first Ford Versatile tractors retained the familiar red, yellow and black paint
scheme until 1990 when the 4wds were changed to the Ford blue and white
colors. Ford needed big horse power 4wd models after its previous supplier
of the FW series 4wds, Steiger was bought by Tenneco for its J.I. Case
subsidiary. Versatile fit the bill as the number two name in the 4wd
industry. Ford purchased the company in order to ensure a solid source of
4wd tractors rather than using Versatile as a supplier. Today the future of
the Versatile line is uncertain after the merger of Case and New Holland.
In accordance with the U.S. Department of Justice, Case and New Holland have
agreed to the divestiture of New Holland's Versatile four-wheel drive
tractor line along with the Winnipeg, Canada, plant in which they are made.
The Bhuler Corporation purchased the well known line in July 2000
